History
Now the resort bears the name of the monastery "St. St. Constantine and Elena", which is located in the area from the 14th - 16th centuries. Since then, only one small church, half buried in the ground, has survived to this day. The famous wine "Kalugersko shushukane" was produced in the monastery. This landmark and the beautiful nature attracted the population even before the Liberation as a place of recreation. Some of the wealthier residents of Varna built summer villas around it, and others had reserved rooms in the monastery. They rented a carriage for 5-6 BGN in the money of the time in both directions and came here on vacation. After the Liberation, the vacationers increased and they were accommodated in the farm buildings of the monastery. Although they sleep on straw mattresses and have to bring their own bedding and utensils for eating and cooking, their numbers continue to grow. Therefore, in 1897, the city municipality of Varna started building the area around the monastery and it gradually turned into a resort.
