View moreDRAMA THEATER "NIKOLA VAPTSAROV" - BLAGOEVGRAD is a repertory theater. It was established in 1919 as a city theater, based in the building of Chitalishte "Saglasie". The status of a state institute with a permanent cast, permanent directors, stage designers and playwright was given in 1948.
Many of the popular actors in the Bulgarian theater have begun their creative path or have successfully performed on the Blagoevgrad stage.
Blagoevgrad Theater is a winner of many prestigious awards from national reviews and festivals - for directing, acting, stage design and music. In 1996, the play "Masters" by R. Stoyanov (directed by Boyko Bogdanov) received the award for the direction of the Union of Artists in Bulgaria and the Dionysus Prize - Smolyan. In 2001, the theater received four Academy Award nominations - for direction, stage design, costumes and best performances; the award "ASKER" was given to Peter Peikov and Albena Georgieva (for the performance "Playing № 27" by Alexey Slapovski). In 2002 "ASKER" received the composer Petya Dimanova for the music of the show "Bloody Wedding" by FG Lorka, directed by Krum Filipov. In 2003 the ASKER Award for Direction was given to Asen Shopov for the performance "At the foot of Vitosha" by PK Yavorov "and a nomination for a rising star received the young actress Silvana Pisimarova for the role of Mila in the same performance. An actor Peter Kiossev was awarded the ASKER Award for a supporting male role for the role of Hans Salam in "Carolina Neuber" by Nebojsa Romcevic, directed by Krikor Azaryan.
