Dzhumaya Mosque is a functioning Muslim temple in Plovdiv. And since the city is tolerant of any religion, walking through the central pedestrian area is not included in the hours of prayer to see the praying crowded in front of her entrance.
The second largest center of Islamic believers in the Jumaia Mosque is visited by many people every year. It is an impressive rectangular building whose salon is 33 to 27 meters in size. Its design shows the influence of the Byzantine and Old Bulgarian architectural techniques - two layers of bricks are built after each layer of cut stone.
According to the historians, the mosque was erected during the reign of Sultan Murad II (1421-1364) at the site of the destroyed Christian church of St. Petka of Tarnovska.
Dzhumaya Mosque impresses with its enormous size, interior decoration and architecture. It has a unique mural decoration in the prayer hall, dating back to the late 17th and early 19th centuries. Remarkable are nine of the domes covered with lead.
The Turkish name of the prayer temple is Hüdavendigar Camii.
