The Balabanov House is named after the merchant Luka Balabanov, who lived there in the early 20th century. From his family comes the popular name, which is known house museum. Balabanov, however, has scant information. It is known that he was wealthy for his time and traded with fabrics, rose oil, rose water and cereals.
The first owner of the house is Hadji Panayot Lampsha. It raises the building in the late 19th century in the typical Renaissance style. He remained in history as a usurer and a very wealthy trader, a member of the Käfandjahship.
The beautiful building has been distinguished by its scale since the time of its construction. The architecture and internal distribution of the house are impressive. It spreads over an area of 546 square meters. Its large entrance gate from the street and the door opposite it leads to an elongated prowler with a high ceiling. There were business and household premises around it. On the first floor there is a permanent exhibition of contemporary Bulgarian painting. This inner courtyard connects one part of the house with the other. A beautiful internal staircase leads to the second floor of the house. There is a glazed lounge for relaxing and welcoming guests.
Nowadays the house is an important part of the cultural life of Plovdiv. It hosts theater performances, concerts, exhibitions, book premieres. The unmistakable atmosphere that carries the building shelters modern artists from all over the country. For many years in the Balabanov House and other buildings from the Reserve the Autumn Exhibitions with the participation of artists from all over the country are held.
In its present form, the Balabanov House existed from the 70s of the last century by the famous architect Arch. Hristo Peev. A few decades ago, the house architectural monument was ruined to the ground.
The house is located on Konstantin Stoilov Str. Between the streets "4th January", "Dr. K. Stoilov" and "Atranik".
