It is housed in the building of the former Hilendar (Rila) monastery, known as the earliest fully preserved and precisely dated, thanks to an adjacent inscription, ancient building in Bansko. The one-story building, preserved in its authentic form, was built in 1749. In modern times, the building comes to life from the works exhibited here by the masters of the Bansko Art School, one of the brightest manifestations of Bulgarian culture in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its representatives fruitfully influenced the progressive changes in artistic thinking during the Bulgarian Renaissance. Their legacy ranks among the most significant achievements of Bulgarian national art. The exhibition contains original icons, copies of frescoes, church utensils, etc. With the implementation of the “Bansko – Crossroads of Civilizations” Project, the building of the Rila monastery has been completely renovated and has been transformed into an ideal decor for the works of gifted icon painters. Providing an accessible environment for people with disabilities is particularly valuable, providing them with the opportunity to come into contact with the incredible creative achievements of our ancestors.
