Peak Jangal

Nature Attraction

Description

Jangal is one of the most beautiful peaks in Pirin, which is situated at an altitude of 2730 m, just as Malyovitsa peak. The top of the peak is made entirely of granite, and its slopes are very steep. They are covered with dwarf pavements, grasses and juniper, and in many places there are plums that descend to the circuses around the peaks - Valyavishki from the west, Popovoesen from the north, northeast and east and Kralevdvorski - from the southeast and the south. Wherever it is viewed from, the peak has a truly majestic and memorable appearance.

Jangal can be climbed from several places. The most accessible and comfortable trail starts from Tevno Lake. It is marked with an unofficial marking - paint, orange dots. The trail, starting from the shelter, climbs up the saddle southeast of Mount Valyavishki Chukar, then descends downhill to the east, reaching the jagged ridge south of the Djangal. It cuts off the ridge from the northwest, then goes to it on the north end. From this place the way to the peak is easier from the south side.

Altogether Jengal peak is one of the most difficult peaks for climbing in Bulgaria. Due to its remoteness from settlements and motorways, the peak requires quite long journeys and you will get tired before getting to the top. Therefore, serious preparation is required.

The origin of the peak’s name is often associated with one of the meanings of the word "jangal" - a lamb sheep that has lost its lamb. At the cutting of these sheep one strand of wool is left to distinguish them from the others.

If you climb up to the top there is no need of any description - you can see almost everything from the North Pirin. Below is the "local" landmark - the lakes of Samodiv, also known as the Kralevski lakes. You will notice that one of the lakes has the shape of a heart and hence its name comes from the Heart of Pirin. This is among the most memorable views of the Pirin Mountain.
