Description

Each year at the height of summer, the Festival of Sand Figures brings the Burgas citizens and the guests of the city into the enchanting world of sand art. The place has always been the same - Lake Park, next to the Horse Base, but the whole resource that builds the festival every year has been getting bigger over the years. Every year, the theme of the festival is different, allowing contestants to unfurl their imagination in a variety of directions. The first edition of the festival takes place in 2008 and then the theme is „Carnival“.

The very process of preparation begins much earlier than the traditional opening in early July. The terrain is being prepared, the sand is sifted and the tireless work of the artists start. The passion and dedication of participants gives fruit, and for 10 years, in front of visitors eyes had come to life dozens of fairy-tale characters, exotic animals, movie legends, and magic beings. Some of sculptures reach a height above 8 meters. For the models is used about 2500 tons a special-resistant rain sand. With each subsequent edition, the festival is becoming more and more popular. It is the only sandy festival on the Balkan Peninsula, in which participate sculptors from four continents - Europe, Asia, North America and Australia.
