Description

Velyanova House is one of the most beautiful houses left over from the Bulgarian Revival. It was built at the end of the 17th century and was originally the home of a wealthy family, which for unknown reasons is evacuated from there. Years later Velyan Ognev - a master decorator, whose main purpose was to paint The Holy Trinity Church, was invited to the city. He subsequently married Sofia - a sister of Neofit Rilski, and remains to live and work in Bansko. The city's management decided to pay him not with money, but with a house.

Thus, Velyan Ognev and his young wife settle in the spacious castle-house, to which the icon-painter inspires a new life. It turns it into a magnificent little "palace" with amazing interior of its time, full of aristocratic details - beautiful drawings, carvings, guest rooms, traditional furniture. The first floor consisted of huge rooms used as a basement and two small rooms, one of which was a hiding place, and the other - Velyan's studio. The second floor includes the living areas, where the personal bedroom of Sofia is located, with the painted walls with Venetian and Constantinople landscapes.

The house was declared immovable cultural value of national importance. It is a material indicator of the economic development and innate aesthetic sense of the population during the Renaissance. Besides emblem of luxury at the time, Velyanova house is a symbol of home and showed admiration of Bulgarians to hearth and family as the basic social unit of life.
