Description
The Palace of Justice is one of the most massive and impressive monumental buildings in Sofia. It is the seat of the third authority in the state - the court. The building has 8 levels: 6 above-ground and 2 underground floors. The building covers an area of 8500 m². The building is one of the monuments of Bulgarian building art, which is well connected with the new one in the architectural image of our capital.
The building is a monument that is frequently visited by many tourists.
Around the Court of Justice, one can notice its most distinctive traces:
Lions in front of the entrance of the palace - they are the work of the sculptor Velichko Minekov. They were placed in 1985 in front of the National Museum of History, at that time located at the front of the Court Palace complex.
Memorial Plate Vittorio (Vito) Pozitano - Leander Lege prevented Sofia from burning by the Ottoman forces during the Russo-Turkish War. On December 20, 1878, along with Louis Marie Leze and Pyotr Gresser, the first three were declared honorable citizens of Sofia.
The two lions are proud before the court and are a symbol of the power and justice that represents the building of the Palace of Justice.
The need to build the Palace comes from the problem that all courts of justice have been scattered in different parts of the capital. So one building that unites them in one place was needed. With this, the Palace of Justice becomes a temple of justice in Bulgaria. The building is entirely developed by Bulgarian architects and engineers, a project built almost exclusively from Bulgarian materials, which makes the Courthouse a product of pure Bulgarian talent.

At present time the palace has 430 rooms, including 24 halls, a library and more. It is impressive that the total built-up area of the Court of Justice is 48,000 m2.
