The media is the only business that in the situation around COVID-19 has gained a lot at the same time and can lose almost everything.
Thanks to information leaders, we learned everything important about the coronavirus and the state of emergency. The traditional media regained self-confidence, gained a new audience and, together with doctors, were at the forefront of the battle to preserve public health and our way of life.
At the same time, in our country the cutting of advertising budgets is the first crisis measure of any business. This is becoming a problem for all media that rely on advertising revenues - and in a period in which analysts say that the advertising market in our country is generally small, even for large media groups.
Thus, after the state of emergency, the media are both strengthened and unprotected. And the questions to the media business are becoming more and more.
Will the status quo on the market be maintained? Will media brands be able to "survive" after the crisis and take a "step forward" towards new models and digitalization? To what extent does the media environment affect the media business? Is it worth everyone to be a media? Are there many players on the market in our country? Can the media have a successful business model without relying on support from the state or other businesses? Will we start paying for content the way they do abroad? (Through subscriptions, article cost, paid services and access to exclusive content). Should Europe support the media and, if so, by what criteria? What is the role of public service media in market regulation? Do the Bulgarian media manage to actively use the Internet? Will the new media change the market in the coming years?
These are just some of the questions we will look for answers in the special panel of the conference COBIZ-20: The media - status quo or a step forward on June 4, 2020 at 13:00.
