In the first part of our article about trails near Gabrovo we introduced you to 3 super routes to satisfy your need for a walk in nature. And every human being needs this, even if he or she is not aware of it. So here we will show you three more interesting trails, perfect for taking advantage of a warm weekend.
"Twisted Wall" trail
The twisted
wall is the end of the karst plateau "Watchtower" and is a vertical
700-meter-wide rock wreath that reveals a scenic horizon in all directions. If
you want to get to the rocks, you can also do it by car. However, here we want
to tell you about the designated eco-trail that will take you through more than
one or two magical places.
The
starting point for the trail is the center of Yavorets village. Walking through
the vineyards, the trail runs east from the village to the fork to the village
of Armeni, where it takes north. The asphalt road follows the Hunting Hut.
Wonderful meadows and a pleasant shady forest follow. After the Hunting Hut,
the trail makes a wide bend that encircles the rocky ledge of the Twisted Wall
and climbs east. You reach the White water, where a fountain and a recreation
area are formed. It is the best place to eat and rest in front of the
magnificent panoramic view. The route follows the ridge of the Karst plateau
for some time and descends southeast towards Lake Belyakovets and Zdravkovets
village. A table and benches are placed on the lake. The trail continues to the
village of Vlaychevtsi. After the village is reached a riding arena with built
facilities.
The route
is 22 km. and is of medium difficulty. Suitable for hiking, horseback and
cycling, but keep in mind that it is much more difficult for cyclists.
Uzana Hut –
Ispolin peak
Uzana is a
key place in the region and you may have noticed how often we mention it. This
is by no means a coincidence, because Gabrovtsi have a Balkan at their
fingertips. One of the most popular walks of Uzana is the path from Uzana hut
to the peak of Ispolin with an altitude of 1524 m. The route is both relatively
short, fairly easy, but extremely rewarding with the view at the end.
The trail is
taken for an hour and a half at a very calm pace, with only the end being a
little more stressful. The path to Ispolin is separated from the asphalt road
about 100 meters after the hut and continues southeast through the beech
forest. After a short steep climb, you reach an open area at the foot of the
peak known as Karamandra. It can also be reached by a forest road, which at the
beginning follows the route to Mount Shipka, and in the saddle at the foot of
Mount Markov the chair turns right.
The ridge of
Ispolin offers panoramic views in all directions. To the west is the Triglav
massif, if you look to the east you will see the Shipka and Buzludzha monuments
from above, and to the south are the Balkan fields. Beautiful views, including
the valley of the Leshnitsa River and the Koprinka Dam, are also discovered
from Bakajik Peak (next to Ispolin), whose Turkish name means "beautiful
view place".
Uzana-Shipka-Gabrovo
Again, we
start from Uzana departs for this trip. This route in the heart of Bulgaria
will take you to the border between the north and the south of the country, as
well as through key places for the Liberation War.
The start
of the trail is in front of Uzana Hut, but the Edelweiss hut is also convenient
for starting. The Uzana-Shipka route is part of the Kom-Emine international
road. Passing it you can pass a minimum part of the longest hiking route in
Bulgaria. The route alternates with ascents and descents, as the altitude of
the hut is 1300 meters, and on the Shipchen Pass-1195 meters. In a word, the
path goes through the passage, not to the monument itself, but nothing prevents
you from climbing the stairs to the monument sanctuary for all Bulgarians.
The route
begins with a descent followed by a steep climb that will reward you with a
unique view of the Koprinka Dam. A little later the ridge reaches the border
between northern and southern Bulgaria. From here you can already see the final
destination - Shipka. On the same ridge you will find a wonderful shelter to
rest on before the next stage of the walk.
The last 30
minutes go mostly through the forest before you reach the Shipka Pass and the
main square, where you can eat something delicious or buy a souvenir or
homemade sweet. Here, everyone can choose whether to return, climb to the top
or take the next path to Gabrovo.
