Kovachevitza village

Back

Kovachevitsa is the place where folk myths are still told among local people. The name of the village of Kovachevitsa comes from an old legend about the blacksmith Marko, who lived in the village for a long time. When all the people from the surrounding villages died, they went to his native village to say goodbye to him. When they asked where they all went, they said to Kovachevitsa the village of the best blacksmith. The village of Kovachevitsa (Kovachevitsa) is located in Southwest Bulgaria, Garmen Municipality, Blagoevgrad District. The emergence of the village of Kovachevitsa is connected with the attempts to forcibly convert the Bulgarian population in 1623-1625. and later in 1656. Many Bulgarians, unwilling to accept Islam, leave their homes and find refuge in the higher parts of the mountains. With the growth of the village, various crafts - agriculture, cattle breeding, construction (craftsmanship) appear and serve for the population. Throughout the Ottoman rule in Kovachevitsa there was no Turkish administration, which favored the transformation of the village into one of the centers of the Macedonian national liberation movement. Today Kovachevitsa has preserved the appearance of past glorious times. With its unique architecture, pleasant atmosphere and amazing views, Kovachevitsa is a favorite place for rest for many Bulgarians and foreigners. Many of the houses welcome tourists and offer excellent weekend breaks. Many taverns have a tavern where you can enjoy traditional dishes.
