Born and raised in a brothel, but who won the hearts of Europe and America, Edith Piaf lived a difficult and turbulent life. Instead of following the chronological biographical path of the world-famous French singer, played with inspiration by Marion Cotillard, the film focuses on individual episodes to highlight the most dramatic events. It begins with a concert by Piaf at the height of her fame and ends with her premature death, 4 years later, at the age of only 47, taking us through meetings with her managers, lovers and family members.
Awards: Oscar for Best Actress Marion Cotillard, Cesar for Best Actress Marion Cotillard; Cesar for Best Set Design, Best Cinematography, Best Costumes; Golden Globe for Best Actress Marion Cotillard.
